Mark Hughes Herbalife

Mark Reynolds Hughes founded Herbalife in February 1980 when he was still in his early 20’s. His mission was to find a way to help people lose weight safely. This was prompted by the death of his mother who had passed away due to unsafe dieting practices.

When Mark Hughes created Herbalife he formed a team of medical and nutritional experts to create Herbalife’s products.

When more and more people tried the products and experienced successful results, the business quickly expanded. Mark developed a network of Distributors who shared his vision, were passionate about the products and excited about the business opportunity.

As Mark Hughes built his network of independent distributors and his Herbalife company, he motivated his team to commit themselves to achieve their goals, both personally and professionally.

To Mark Hughes Herbalife was his way to inspire people to reach new heights of success and maintain a healthy lifestyle. In 1994 Mark and Suzan Hughes started the Herbalife Family Foundation, a charity dedicated to helping children. The Herbalife Family Foundation and its sister organization, the International Herbalife Family Foundation, have donated more than $5 million to children’s causes worldwide.

Mark passed away in 2000 at the age of 44, and his vision continues to thrive. Today, there are more than 1.9 million Herbalife Distributors in over 70 countries, making their dreams of a healthier life and financial independence come true.

In 2003, in honor of Mark’s pioneering work in weight management and nutrition, Herbalife helped establish the Mark Hughes Cellular and Molecular Nutrition Laboratory at UCLA which is dedicated to science-based nutrition research.
