If you’ve just started taking Herbalife to lose weight, or you’re considering it, you may be wondering if there are any Herbalife side effects. It’s a reasonable question for anyone who is unfamiliar with the program.

Herbalife has a broad product range for health, nutrition and weight loss. The core product offering is the Formula 1 Nutritional Shake Mix. This is a protein based shake mix designed to be used as a meal replacement. The program also includes certain herbal supplements and vitamins to target specific weight loss needs, such as supporting metabolism, reducing fluid retention, burning fat and building energy.

Herbalife Side Effects

Certain ingredients in some of the Herbalife products may cause Herbalife side effects for various people. Fortunately the USDA requires that any such warnings be included on the Herbalife product labels. Herbalife aside, you should always inspect the product label for any over the counter weight loss supplement.

Here are three ingredients that could possibly cause side effects:

Caffeine – Some Herbalife products contain caffeine as a metabolism booster. Caffeine can cause nervousness, headaches and higher blood pressure. A typical cup of coffee has about 85mg of caffeine per cup. Per serving, Herbalife teas, tablets, and effervescent products have between 65-75 mg of caffeine per serving. If you are allergic to caffeine you should avoid the products that include caffeine. Some of these are: N-R-G Tablets and Liftoff energy drink. Check the product labels on other products for the ingredients.
Protein and/or Soy – Some people are allergic to concentrated protein. Although the body has protein in our cells, the problem occurs when too much protein upsets the balance in the body’s ability to process protein. Again, check the product labels for each Herbalife product you are considering.
Shellfish – According to Herbalife certain products contain shellfish, so if you are allergic to shellfish, you may want to avoid these products: Herbalifeline®, Tri-Shield®, Joint Support.

Herbalife side effects should not be confused with the normal detoxification process our bodies go through as a result of the healthy nutrients we’re now consuming. Also, consider the side effects from prescription drugs. Just listen to the end of any commercial or read the small print. It can be enough to scare you half to death! So, put any Herbalife side effects that you may experience into perspective.

Something else to consider when discussing Herbalife side effects is that especially for children and pregnant or lactating women, you should consult a physician or dietitian before considering any weight control program.

Herbalife was involved in an issue over Ephedra, a supplement that was found to have caused heart problems in some dieters. However, Herbalife adopted a new Ephedra-free formulation in 2004, after the FDA banned the use of Ephedra. Herbalife is now Ephedra-free.

Herbalife has a "Nutrition and Science Advisory Board" comprised of leading nutrition physicians including one Nobel Laureate. So rest assured that Herbalife products are scientifically formulated to produce the desired results while documenting any warnings about possible side effects as required.

Hello,

Yesterday i have taken distributorship of thess products. Can u please give more details about the side effects of these products if possible???

My daughter have cow milk allergy we tried giving her a dino shake. However the reaction of Dino Shake was same like cow milk.

We are more concern to know if we can give these products to everybody or there are limitations.

If you are hoping to have intelligent and well educated people take you serious you need to learn how to write correctly. To be honest, some of the distributors who posted in this blog sound like straight-up dummies. Hi, i m using this product for the past 30 days and I have not come across any side effects. But one of my friend who introduced me to this product has recently a couple of days back have faint down while going to office and her BP got very lowered and immediately took up to the hospital for first aid. The doctor advised not to take this product and also advised her that if this product is the only thing for reducing the weight means, we will recommend such product. But we dont do like that. Anything happening in opposite of nature should not be entertained.
Kindly clarify this immediately

according english medicines one should avoid consumption of any thing new when faceing allergys. The reason for allergy may not be coz of only one thing, ther could may other reasons including past history.

this could be part of the detoxification process.I have heard that even when you change to a healthier diet you have these low BP or faint feeling.Try to take a bit less,and if you are on high blood pressure pills maybe see your Doc and get the dosage changed.When your body gets healthier it starts to heal itself

fainting is due to variations in sugar level. once u start replacing ur breakfast(or any meal) with shake sugar level will go low. as we r used to eating/drinking sugar based food or drinks. shake is sugar free. but ur body will get used to it soon. if ever u feel like fainting just eat some sweet, ur sugar level will be under control and u will feel energetic. but pls keep using this product. u r getting 114 micro nutriants. with heralife there is no side effect, only side benefits r there.

Hi! I am epilectic and I ve take only 2 day fibre and herb tablets with my normal medication (carbamazepine) and I had a small seisure. I take other herbalife products and I everything was ok. Normally I dont have problem with my epilepsy, the before seisure was around 5 years ago. I will apreciate if you could send me any information. Regards

Don’t give up! you should continue using this product. you should be discipline in consuming diet food and drinking water at least 2 liters each day,and do sport regularly. I’ve been using it for 3 months and I loss my weight 7kg, from 62 become 55kg. Okay, good luck!

Hello! I will be starting Herbalife shakes as soon as my order arrives. My sister is a distributor and has lost 20 pounds and her friend 60 pounds. I know that I can expect to be a little hungry the 1st few days of starting it but it will taper off. I am pretty good about drinking water for the most part,so I need to keep it going. A friend of mine tried to tell me the shakes contained Ephedra. Now why would my sister let me buy/drink something that contained that which was taken off the market? I did some reading on it and Ephedra was taken out of the shakes 7 years ago, in 2004 per the FDA. I am DETERMINED to lose some weight off the shakes! Christine – I started Herbal Life smoothies, vitamins and tea on Christmas Day 2011. I have lost 10 lbs. and 6 1/2 inches and feel great. However, two other people that I have referred to this program have had side effects. My husband broke out in a rash on his arms, back and chest. Another friend was nauseous and had headaches for the 3 weeks she was on it. As soon as she stopped, the sickness did too. Everyone is different and this product may not work for all. My best advice to anyone reading this is to read the labels on the products you are using and Google any ingredients you are not sure of. If you feel great and are losing weight, keep up the good work; if not, there is something out there that will help. You just have to find the right program for you.

The rash is being treated by a doctor. We still cannot pinpoint the cause but assume it is an allergic reaction to something in the Herbal Life products he was using because it was the only thing that had changed in his diet since the rash started. He was using Formula 1 Healthy Meal and Protein Drink Mix … same things I have been using. I have had no issues.

Yes it is advisable to use these products to lose weight! I have been using them myself and i have lost a total of 10.4 lbs and 47 inches and have gone down 4 pant sizes. A client of mine has been on the program for 4 weeks and has lost a total of 8.5 lbs and 13 inches and has gone down 2 pant sizes…so it works. The best thing about the program is the amazing energy and you don’t feel hungry all the time!

It’s difficult to provide a specific answer without enough information. It may be a part of the detoxification process, or may have nothing to do with Herbalife at all. If it persists, you should consult with your doctor, and even take the product label with you so they can check the ingredients to see if perhaps there is something you may be allergic to.

You shouldn’t really eat just before you go to sleep. The recommended usage for the Herbalife shakes is one for breakfast and one for lunch. Then have a sensible meal for dinner. Herbalife has a product called Sleep Now to help you sleep and you can of course take that.

I am doing the Herbalife Shapeworks Advance Weight Loss Program. I have only two days doing this program, I am feeling very stressed out and w/ tension on my upper body from head to chest & arms. It only happens to me when I take the pills all together 3 times a day. I am taking cell activator, multivitamin complex, total control and cell-u-loss. Herbalife Tea is good for professional sports people. There should not be any ingredients in there to be concerned about, but if you want to satisfy yourself, you can also take the label to your doctor to take a look.

I am one of the herbalife distributor in the North west, what initially worked for me prior to becoming a distributor was, 2 shakes a day of Formula 1 and Formula 2 which is in tablets form x 3 times a day. I was advised to drink at least 3 litres of water. I mixed my Formula 1 shakes with Soya milk, 250mls 2 times a day. I had to have 1 health meal a day. in between, I took herbalife protein bar, and some soya nuts snacks.

I lost a lot of weight within 3 weeks, considering I was not exercising a lot, due to lack of time. Ever since my energy levels have dramatically remain stable. I am able to maintain sleep, more than 7 hours minimum which was very difficult for me prior to herbalife. I feel less stressed out than I was before. I am a lot happier to be honest. I would recommend herbalife to anybody, although it is expensive, but its worth it. It’s definately, cheaper, healthier and safer option than Gastric banding or gastric bypass.

The only side effects I incurred in the begginning were headaches, and this is only when I had not drunk enough water, but they eventually vanished.

I am now taking only 1 shake aday for my nutritional maintainous and boost my vitamin levels in the system.

So consuming the high calorie processed foods that most American’s eat is better than a nutritious shake that has been scientifically formulated to supply our bodies with the nutrients they need for healthy functioning? Are you having a healthy meal for dinner? You can’t survive off the shakes alone… One for breakfast, one for lunch and then a sensible meal….Maybe we’re missing something here, but given the choice of prescribed drugs, which themselves have all kinds of scary side effects from blood clots to strokes to who knows what….I’d rather choose something healthy and nutritious….whether that’s a Herbalife shake, or organic foods, or whatever… Your body is probably reacting to the fact that it’s receiving something nutritious, as opposed to the gunk you’ve been feeding it for all these years…

I too am a dedicated Herbalife distributor. In a comment left by Tania, on January 15,2010, I would like to add a suggestion. When I started the program, I was also taking my supplements 3x a day and noticed that I was a bit “jittery” and feeling tension. After some experimentation, I found that taking the “Total Control” 3x a day was causing this. Therefore, I have lowered my dosage to 2x. Once in the morning and at lunch. This seems to have solved the problem. Another recommendation is if you are a drinker of caffeinated beverages (coffee, tea, soda, etc), consumption needs to be cut back while using Total Control. If problems with tension still exist after changing your dosage, try “Snack Defense” It helps to keep your blood sugar at normal levels and may help with binge eating without the caffeine. Please remember that there are guidelines that are “recommended” by Herbalife, but you can always adjust dosage to your personal taste. Just don’t exceed the recommended dosage on the product.

You can use Herbalife to gain weight. You could take 3 shakes per day in addition to what you are already eating, and take the tablets after the shakes. Don’t skip breakfast and be sure to take 3 shakes a day in addition to your regular meals.

It’s recommended that you keep using the products until you have reached your desired weight. In order to do this, take one shake for breakfast, one for lunch and a sensible meal. If you don’t see it through, and you continue with potential unhealthy eating habits, then yes, chances are you will gain the weight back. It works if you take it. If you stop taking it, it’s impossible for it to work.

hi i been on herballife for a month now. The good thing is i have tons of energy, my headaches are gone, and my moods have been alot better. The bad thing is i havent seen any major weight loss results. Iv’e lost like 3 sad pds or maybey 2. I dont know if its me doing something wrong or what but, if it is then it is extremely strict because in the morning i would weight less and if i ate a heavy dinner the next morning i would be back to my weight as if i gained. Im so sad cuz i thought my only hope of the 100 of diets i have tried this one would work. do i have to be strict to really see results? please help!

I’ve been on herbalife for a week & I’ve already lost 5 lbs. I’m doing 2 shakes a day & eating a healthy dinner (ie: chicken & vegetables). Yesterday, I started the AM/PM Herbalife Detox pills & my skin has been super itchy for the past 2 days. Is it possible I’m allergic to one of the ingredients? Or is this just part of the normal detoxification process. I can already see results, I don’t feel bloated, etc so I definitely don’t want to stop taking the AM/PM pills.

I have allergies and the only way to find out, it’s by stopping the products for couple of days and try one by one to see which one is the one causing it. It is important to know that Herbalife is about changing your eating habits. You may choose to take it forever, however I believe we could all use it to help us to get to your healty weight then keep that same discipline to buy the right food at the grocery store and prepare them with a combination of daily morning walk.

I honestly dont think so, but I wouldnt risk it. 6kg is not worth a child to have any issues and the lifetime regrets. I tell you that my daughter came out as a premie weighing 4pds. She was in the hospital for nearly a month in NICU- critical- but through out my pregnancy I was a healthy eater to the core. It was stress that led to me conceiving early. Getting to the point, it is difficult seeing your baby suffer when its not something you can control, but worse when you know it was.

Hello,
I took Herbalife F1(3 Scoops) and F3(1 Scoop) along with slim milk, in the first one week my asthma or wheezing came down (my weight reduced, increase in energy and knee pain vanished) and slowly breathlessness returned back, by the end of 2nd week my asthma is uncontrollable, required to take steroids tablets to bring it down. Hope u refused to take rest of the products given by ur Herbalife distribuor. U have to take either activated fibre or Protien powder to control ur appetite. Herbalife is scientifically prepared formulation.Tats why same one for all ie Herbalife without another food reduce fat as it is providing only 250 caloreis at a time with a onetime meal of 500 calories total u will be getting 1000 calories from food one day in the place where u are taking 1850-2000 calories. Ur acne will not be due to the products actually soo many people got rid of acne after taking herbalife….probably ur one time meal is rich in oily….or water intake is less…remember 1litre of water per 20kg……wash your face in an interval of 3hrs…and use termeric paste on ur face

hai… I suggest people who would like to take herbalife for weight loss.

1) Never believe consultant (herba life) words as he is not a doctor where he cant judge ur fat body if its due to over calories or due to hormonal imbalance.

2) Common thing for people with a range of weight is being given same product with out analyzing if that suits or not.

3) Don’t know on what he does some calculations where he mentions that ur body has this many kgs of weight..

4)Never and ever take this product without consulting a doctor by blindly believing what a consultant says.

5) Prior to take this, know what body is urs. Is it due to over eating of food? Is it due to hormonal imbalance? Is it hereditary? Then think of this product..

I came across that Herbalife was involved in an issue over Ephedra,…. a supplement that was found to have caused heart problems in some dieters. Subsequently, Herbalife adopted a new Ephedra-free formulation after it was banned in the US.
I would like to know if all herbalife products in India as well as in other countries are Ephedra-free.

I would call herbalife headquarters at 866-866-4744 and directly ask them, but I believe that herbalife would NOT put unsafe ingredients in any of there products if they were banned in any country. If its not safe to use in the United States Herbalife wouldnt use it any where else. Thats just my opinion based on company ethics and standards!

Hi, Weight doesnt always tell the whole story…with herbalife you lose many inches..if you are happy with your size and how you look and fit in the clothes you are wearing actually means more than just your weight loss. If you are happy, I would go to the maintain plan. One shake a day and 2 colorful meals and a snack! Breakfast is always a great choice to continue your formula one shake!

Yes you can have as many shakes as you want but remember your body needs at least 1200 calories a day to function properly! I don’t know your body composition but just make sure you watch your calories, drink plenty of water, and take a good multi-vitamin! 8 shakes would be approximately 1600 calories! Good Luck!

I take the Herbalife products to gain weight. I have gained 10lbs of lean muscle! The program is a little different. To gain you need 3 shakes a day with 3 meals a day. I have been using the ultimate system for about 3 weeks now. I know that I was no where near getting my daily nutrition before starting this and I feel it now. I FEEL GREAT! I have never had so much energy….BUT! I don’t feel like I have lost a pond…I feel like I have gained. I have put my faith into this product and understand the detoxifying process. Yet I have been feeling 5-8 ponds heaver then when I started. I feel as though it’s water weight but can’t really tell. Okay let me try yo make this short, started the 2 shakes daily and 1 meal plan. first week my 1 meal per day was unhealthy and had ice cream for snacks. starting weight/height 177pounds / 5’8-5’9. weekly check up 1st week 171pounds! great! 2nd week 172. 3rd week 173. 4th week 175 pounds. I started this program after losing 50-60 pounds through exercise and eating healthy. this is the first time in several month that I actually started to put pounds back on. In addition, I have been doing 1 cheat day a week even b4 I started this herbalife plan. cheat days usually consist of red meats/ burger / fried stuff. I exercise almost daily and the question is. If I want ripped abs do I have to sacrifice my cheat days and somewhat unhealthy lunch or can it be achieved slowly through my current diet. It seems like no matter what I do the belly fat doesn’t go away. 1-1/2 year to lose about 50 pounds, target weight is 155-160 range. tell me some tips. why am I gaining weight back?

How about putting it here so that it can help others.
The common reason i know:

1. You have shake and then being over cautious you don’t eat small meals in normal interval. keeping the stomach empty causes this.
2.Smoking and not drinking enough water.
3.All of sudden going through extensive physical exercise.
4.Sleep deprived.
5.Eating lot of diary products
6.lot of Traveling and not resisting to go toilet.

Herbalife mainly focus on fat loss . so somtimes people observed that they are losing in weight an sometimes in reducing their inches from all over the body. So what you observed is correct. Me and My Husband used Herbalife products for around 1 and half months. We used Protein powder+ Nutritional shake twice a day with Afresh. We eat only lunch , we take shake in the morn as well as in the night.But there has been no effect on our weight, there has been no difference after using these products. Do we need to exercise daily while we consume this product in order to reduce weight??
I have heard lot of negative facts of Herbalife. Some claim to have skin diseases and others having kidney failure after consuming these products.
I am really confused what to do.But i really like your products, I feel active through out the day after drinking the shake, but have not reduced weight.
One last question, once i reach my target weight should i still continue drinking your products, if i stop will i put on weight again??

I’m 21 years old and a student. off-late I’ve been having symptoms of PCOD and my doctor told me that inorder to cure I’ve gotta lose weight so as to get it cured (BTW I’m 94kgs and my height is 5.5′) and she also suggested me this dietician who is nothing but a distributor of herbalife (she really doesn seem like a proper dietician at all). More than understanding my queries she was focussed on selling these products to me. She asked me to consume it and promises that I’d lose 10 – 15 kgs in just a month which we all know is unhealthy. I am confused cuz I’m reading both positive and negative comments and mostly these are so expensive. She told me to have this chocolate shake which is about 1500 and claims it’ll get over in 15 days and 2 more boxes of protein and some afresh powder together costing me Rs. 4500 just for a month. Even if I’m ok with buying it, once I am done losing weight and stop it, is it gonna leave me with any problems or am I gonna gain back all my weight?
I’m confused!

Surely you can lose your weight averagely 3 -8 kgs in month depending on your RM (Resting Metablic Rate) or even more.
In regards to your question whether you will regain the weight that you lose earlier then the anwser is you can’t stop the products all of a sudde. you need to complete weight maintaience course before stopping your products.In that case you will not gain the weight that you lose earlier. This products are compleltly safe and natural.

I am also on the thyroid medicine and was actually referred to Herbalife by my physician in Richmond, Virginia. She has had to tweek my dosage since I started taking the products and told me that was normal. She also was thrilled with my side effects after being on the program for 8 weeks:

Blood sugar down to 155 from 390

Cholesterol down to 178 from 380

Weight down 20 pounds.

I am now a distributor and will never stop taking the products. I feel so much better and don’t ever want to go back to the way I was.

Do not take these products if you have a thyroid problem. I also have hypothyroidism, and besides all the other ill health effects of soybeans, they also can damage your thyroid and inhibit the production of T3 and T4. For God’s sake don’t listen to people who have a vested interest because they are trying to sell these products because they are distributors! Just Google soybeans effects on thyroid and you can see for yourself all the information out there about soy and how bad it is.

hi!am mother and a distrubutor.i would advice you not to give it to the baby if you live in canada since we dont have children shakes.in november doctor Luigi gratton one of herbalife doctors and also the vice president affaires answered that question since i have kids i had the same question .i wanted to know if it good for my kids.he said the protein in the shake are too much for a baby he would not advice to give it to babies.when am taking it my kid can drink alittle bit but bot my baby.she has the right to tell you that coz it can not hum the baby but i think the stomach of 6months is fragile too.i have a 9 month and not all food are already introduced to him.thank you

I have just started with herbalife and felt great in the first week, during the second week,one night, i woke up with severe pain in my arms. it felt like the bloodflow was cut off,my arms were cold and sore. I have never had something like this. I do know i am allergic to penicillin. Is the herbalife safe for me to use?

herbalife products r excellent and give great results if used exactly as supervised by the health counsellor.
regarding allergic reactions,all I can say that either it may b coincidental with the usage,or any lactose intolerant would totally like to avoid whey protein as it is obtained from milk.the major concentration of protein in pp comes from soya,so shouldn’t pose problem.they can have soya milk in addition to increase the ratio of protein.

I myself use herbalife products.being fitness freak I tried lots of supplements to increase the performance and stay fit.herbalife by far gave better results.I m a gym goer having a lean muscular figure and work 14-16 hours a day.

I strongly recommend these products under supervision.any queries will b gleefully entertained as health and fitness is my passion!

Breast enhancement can b best done by using hormones or steroids under medical supervision.the job of cell activator is to promote the utilization of nutrients by the cell.it also promotes hyperplasia but certainly cell activator alone won’t give the best results. Beware that hoemonal therapy carries risk of many side effects.

Yes herblife is having liver toxicity. I my self develop jaundice after taking herbalife for 1 1/2 months. Which is diagnosed as due to drug toxicity by drs.on web also evidence was found about its liver toxicity. Be careful…

I would like to know if Herbalife products can interfere with y levothroid pills. I had my thyroid removed 5 years ago and I am on an alternate dosae of levotrhoid. Those 2 dosages were very difficult to find. I also would like to know what kind of stimulant are in HErbalife. My doctor is not really for because she said some of them have stimulant.
