I need to know for my clients if your soy is genetically modified? Also, are the phytoestrogens removed from all your soy products? I really do not understand why you use so much soy? It is more difficult for most to digest than whey protein isolate, it interferes with the absorption of several minerals and usually has phytoestrogens which contribute to weight gain!!!! Also, I noticed sucralose in the protein bars, this artificial sweetener interferes with the good bacteria in the gut. Why not go 100% whey protein isolate and use stevia instead??

  2. thanks for compiling these. it is distressing there is so much soy and high fructose corn syrup, artificial ingredients and sub-par protein (casein, which is the lowest grade) in these products.

    [Reply]

    Sarah Yeomans Reply:

And the MAIN ingredient is fructose, which I find astounding.

    [Reply]

    Richard Reply:

The main ingredient is in fact soy protein. By the way where is casein protein in the products? There is a world of information on the importance of blends of proteins for absorption rates and amino profile.

    Richard Reply:

There is no fructose corn syrup in the shakes, soy protein has additional health benefits, containing 4 times the l-arginine and is absorbed more quickly (twice as fast as whey for example). Fructose is low gi and is naturally occuring, in benign quantities is regarded as a safe sweetner as it is 5times as sweet as other sugars requiring less subsequently. Other brands have several different sugars all being main ingredients in meal replacements. Soy protein being the main ingredient in the formula 1. I have been very happy and feel very healthy whilst taking the shakes, my diet is generally very good as a professional athelete.

    Richard,

Sometimes you cant help people that want to complain about people being healthy and wealthy….. Sue has no idea what she is talking about and probably works for some nutrition shop and sells product that has aluminum and arsenic in it…. she has no idea that these products are made by Nobel Prize winning doctors and have helped 65 million people reach there goals in 81 different countries. Not to mention Herbalife creates a new millionaire every other day and has a CEO that left Walt Disney to work for Herbalife right after he headed The Lion King……… Ignorance is bliss…..

    God Bless

  3. I’m having a hard time locating the ingredients in the Herbalife product: Prolessa Duo.. just lots of hype… I want to know what’s exactly in there.

You can try looking at the labels from this post. If that isn’t answering your question, just call Herbalife directly and ask them. If you’re a distributor you can call directly, if not ask your sponsor to help you with this.

  5. Why would anyone use soy when there are thousands of studies linking soy to malnutrition, digestive distress, immune-system breakdown, thyroid dysfunction, cognitive decline, reproductive disorders and infertility—even cancer and heart disease?

I read the same thing from a tyroid expert. Soy isn’t as healthy as one might believe.

Well I don’t know about everyone else, I’ve been on the nutritional shake for 7 years and I’m having a great time. Before Herbalife, my body was SO run down, I was on chronic medication for severe headaches and blood pressure, the side effects were causing more problems than the headaches were and my life was a total washout. Three weeks after starting the core products I threw the pills where they belong and have not looked back. My health is far better now than it ever was. AS for the issue about soy in the shake, Hay we have some fantastic Doctors and scientists on the board, I’m sure they know what they are doing, otherwise they would not be using the products themselves.
Jordan Rubin, in one of his books mentions that as with other foods, they have to follow a certain process and it’s the same for soy, it is first fermented to get rid of the harmful toxins, and then the nutrition can be extracted.
Just get back onto the shake and enjoy the benefits! :-)

Your right Vic, that’s why there are so many unhealthy Asians in this world, it’s that Soy that they eat so much of, it’s killing them! How dare they share it with us!!!

To Mike, Stephanie, Vic and Margaret. There is always so much hype against a good quality product, people trying to find fault and pull it down. You will never achieve this with Herbalife products. Read Travis’s comment on the 26th April.
If any of Herbalife’s more than 60 doctors and scientists on the board of nutrition see and know that all these stories are true and that the products are unsafe, they would most definitely for one, stop using the products themselves and for two, stop the production and find an alternative. Results speak for themselves – WE have more than 80 million success stories – with this FACT – AND the FACT that our Herbalife doctors USE the products and that the CEO of Herbalife uses it, and his family, that is evidence enough for me that they are safe and all this HYPE is unfounded.
Mike, Stephanie, Vic and Margaret. Stop complaining and looking for faults, use the nutritional shake and experience for yourself the power that is unleashed into your bodies. I promise you this you won’t believe the difference all that nutrition makes to you.

The Chinese in fact do not eat soy, they use it for nitrogen fixing in crop rotation. They are well aware that it should not be consumed by humans unless it is thoroughly fermented.

    Charles Reply:

Ha!! Who’s thumb did you suck this from!!
Please give me the website or book or whatever that you got this info from, I would like to read it myself. I am not convinced!! All Chinese use soy in most their foods.

  6. I don’t know the science of nutrition, however, I use around 70% of Herbalife products. I have been using them for going on to a year and honestly… I have never felt more alive and healthy. Coming from someone with a low immune system I have not even been sick since I started on the products. So… GO HERBALIFE!

  7. Hi, this has nothing to do with your article, but I have noticed the picture of the lady, Julie M, above has featured on other websites for another weight loss company and their product. The question that comes to my mind is, did she lose weight on Herbalife, the other weightloss companies product or is she selling her picture?

    [Reply]

    Stephanie Blackbird Reply:

Which picture Charles? We have had people steal our before and afters and claim them for their programs.

    [Reply]

    Charles Reply:

Wow! Am I the only one who sees it? “Julie M,” right at the top of the page, when I click on it, it takes me to a Nuvoryn website and all their products. So is “healthydiet.com” a Herbalife website or generic?

  8. Her name is Jillian Michals and when you click the link it takes you to HER website. Since this is a blog I would say it is not affiliated with the Herbalife company.

  9. Just given up on Herbalife. Could not even get to find out the price of the shakes, without having to give all kinds of personal details and apply for an access code. Why is this?
My “coach” is plainly fully indoctrinated. So would I be if I was going on a week’s holiday, paid for by Herbalife!!So, all you failed Herbalife reps, now you know where some of the thousands of dollars you paid has gone to!
Why would a person pay exhorbitant prices for a meal replacement shake, then pay extra for delivery and wait for days for it to come, when they can go to the local chemist, pay, and walk away with the goods, with no extra post &handling? The mind `boggles

    [Reply]

    Charles Reply:

Heck Pauline, this is terrible! Is this “coach” of yours some sort of control freak?
Requiring the price of the shakes is NO BIG DEAL as far as we are concerned (That’s how we are here in South Africa)
And – heck NO! Herbalife does not work that way just so the “big volume movers” can go on a fully paid for holiday – not at all!
I seriously think you should take another look at Herbalife through another distributor and tell this person to “Get on their trike and take a hike!”
As too the exorbitant price that he/she is charging you, as a distributor we have to abide by a standard price guide, we are NOT allowed to charge extra on the suggested price of the product. As to charging for cartage/postage, that is entirely up to the distributor. From what we have been instructed here, heck be considerate to your customer it doesn’t cost that much for the warehouse to pack and ship it out, so let them do it and carry the cost, if the customer insists on paying the delivery, then so be it.
Yes, I have some people who quibble about paying the recommended price, then I suggest to them to take a look at what they already spend on a meal, if they weren’t taking Herbalife. In a month they pay more than double what they would pay for the meal replacement shakes – PLUS they are NOT getting the recommended nutrition in that diet. They prity soon see the picture and get onto the shake.
Don’t give up Pauline just because of one bad egg. If you are serious in achieving your weight goal. find another distributor and get back onto the program.
    Regards Charles

  11. Years ago I saw my husband’s aunt lose a lot of weight on Herbal Life. Just recently I’ve seen my niece lose some weight and she looks healthy and prettier than I’ve ever seen her. So I asked her tonight what the cost is and I’m placing an order with her. I think all these naysayers are just trying to cause trouble.

  12. Folks, you really need to look at the ingredients. The Soup Mix contains MSG – x 3 (autolyzed yeast extract, and yeast extract is listed twice). artificial flavors, Sucralose, Soy protein in almost all the products.
Fish gelatin… Any self respecting naturopath or natural health practioner would tell you not to ingest most of these products.
There are so many other options for a multi-vitamin to take daily; and you can find protein powders without all these toxic chemicals. There is nothing magic, or special about Herbal Life products that would justify the damage you are doing by ingesting these chemicals.

  13. Are you sure about the vegetarian protein not being as bioavailable? I always got the impression that plant sources of food, protein, fats, and supplements were usually more bioavailable than non-plant sources. Is it necessary to store protein powders long-term with mylar bags and O2 absorbers?
